On May 3, over 100 students in grades 4 to 9 took part in the annual Regional Heritage Fair, presenting 96 projects on a wide range of topics related to local history, family traditions, and the cultures and heritage of Nova Scotia and Canada. The Regional Heritage Fair is a chance for students to explore and celebrate Canada’s unique heritage and cultural diversity, and to engage in deep learning about subjects they find interesting or personally relevant.

Each year, the Lieutenant Governor’s Medals are awarded to two grade 11 students from each high school, in recognition of demonstrated leadership qualities, service to the school and community, and commendable academic standing. The following students received medals from the Honourable Arthur J. Leblanc, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, at a ceremony in Halifax on May 1:

In April, Horton High School celebrated Kindness Day to encourage positive health and wellness among students and staff. Workshops throughout the day were aimed at raising spirits and provoking thought. Each session was intended to meet one of two objectives: To introduce students to practical, manageable ways to reduce stress through an activity, hobby, or therapeutic approach; and to challenge students’ thinking to shift from from negative to positive thought processes.

This year’s Annapolis Valley Regional Science Fair featured over 100 projects from students in grades P-12 covering a wide range of science, engineering and technology topics. This year's event also also included a Family Science Night giving students the chance to share their research. Four student scientists will represent our region at the Canada Wide Science Fair in May, while many others received awards and recognition for their hard work.
