African Heritage Month 2019

February is African Heritage Month in Nova Scotia. This year's theme, Our History is Your History, recognizes the unique story of African Nova Scotians and how this history is interwoven throughout the past, present and future of all Nova Scotians.

This year's theme also aligns with the United Nations International Decade for People of African Descent and its goal of strengthening global cooperation in support of people of African descent as they strive for full inclusion in all aspects of society.

The province of Nova Scotia has over 48 historic African Nova Scotian communities, dating back over 400 years in our province's history.

This month and throughout the year, AVRCE schools strive to honour and celebrate the cultural, historic, economic, scientific and social contributions of African Nova Scotians.

Special events this month include the annual African Youth Talent Show on February 20 (storm date February 27).
